How do I take care of my wraps? Washing and Storing

After using, hand wash your wrap with cold water. Soap and gentle scrub is ok if needed. Most of the time wraps only need to be rinsed off with cold water since very few things will actually stick to beeswax coating. Once rinsed, hang dry until it’s fully dry and then store it in a drawer. Most importantly, NO HOT water, NO DISHWASHER. Heat will ruin your wrap.

Can I use my wraps in the freezer?

Short term usage is fine. Since beeswax wraps are breathable, long term use in the freezer will cause freezer burn on your vegetables.

How to create the best seal?

Wraps are temperature responsive. Warmth of your hands transfers into the wrap and makes them more pliable. Wraps stick the best to themselves. If a surface is non porous such as a wooden bowl, try overlapping layers of wrap onto itself, or simply hug the bowl longer, so there is longer contact with your warm hands (it will work even if you have cold hands). Wraps can also be crumpled few times, that also helps to soften it and transfer the heat from your hands.

Do beeswax wraps have a scent?

Brand new wraps have a very mild and pleasant scent of beeswax and pine resin. This will dissipate within few uses.

Do wraps leave a residue on my dishes or vegetables?

Brand new wraps may leave residue on ceramic dishes or glassware. This is not permanent and will go away after few uses. Residue on dishes can be washed off with hot water and soap.

How to dispose of old wraps?

Wraps will change with use over time. Eventually they become less sticky, and may not function as well. Properly taken care of, even frequently used wraps should last at least a year. Worn out wraps can still be used as covers and lids fastened with a tie. Another way to repurpose them is to use them as shelf liners or jar lid openers (will do wonders for a pickle jar). Retired wrap can be cut up into strips and used as fire starter or composted.
