Roots of Kula Bee

Somewhere in California mountains I’ve developed quite a crave. Honey … Yes. Honey … I’ve been hiking for days and weeks by then, and despite what people say on backpacking blogs, I didn’t crave burgers, I craved honey, all day and every day. In 2021 I finally lived my dream where all things aligned, I was able to leave my career as an animal nurse, and finally I was lucky enough to set my feet on Pacific Crest trail. How is this related to Beeswax food wraps you may ask ? Well … my hikers crave for honey turned into love (or obsession) for honey, and that obsession progressed into massive curiosity to anything related to bees. And that’s how the story goes … After completing my through hike, I got a job at honey and beeswax candle store. There, I got to learn so much more about bee medicine and all amazing gifts that hard working bees are sharing with human kind. Working with Beeswax is the most intoxicating, best smelling, delicious and dizzying experience. This is how Kula Bee Goods was born.

Beeswax infused cotton cloth for wrapping food is one of many many practical and versatile applications for Beeswax. I love everything about the wraps. I love that it is a wholesome product, I love that it is an ancient technique for preserving food freshness, I love that its made with natural ingredients, I love that it helps people to reduce single use plastic in their kitchens, and I love what it does for my veggies … I tried it, I fell in love with it, I am making it to share.

KULA is a Sanskrit word for tribe, family, community. Hawaiian language also has quite a few meanings for KULA, one of them is for English word - Gold. All comes together as a concept of Golden Bee Tribe. Join me. Lots of love, Ruta
